Somali Parents Autism Network (SPAN) is currently undertaking a Friday sermon and community gathering public announcement campaign at Islamic houses of worship and community events. For the last 4 months of 2022 we delivered 13 public announcement speeches about autism in general and the Somali Autism Project in particular, followed by setting up an informational table distributing project fliers and business cards at the following locations:

- Somali Parent Autism Network hosted its annual autism conference and dinner on May 13, 2023. The event brought community stakeholders, service providers, and members from the Governor’s council. SPAN had a variety of speakers present at the conference. Every presenter spoke on various topics currently impacting the autism and Somali community. SPAN would like to thank AuSM for their efforts and support for us. We would also like to thank city council member Jamal Osman for speaking to our families and sharing kind words and his support for the community. The Masonic Institute of the developing brain for presenting their research and sharing new information with the SPAN community. A special thank you to Mariam Egal, Anne Harrington, and Idil Abdul. These three women have worked diligently towards creating change for Somali families with autistic children, and their continuous support will always be appreciated. SPAN also would like to acknowledge the incredible work that Deeqaifrah Hussien is doing for our community. She is the current director for the Minneapolis Public Schools and shared fascinating information from her dissertation. SPAN wants to express our deepest gratitude to Ellie Wilson. She has been with SPAN, so has the entire AuSM team.Ellie helped with not only planning this event but the expansion of our organization. She has introduced our organization to many possibilities, the most important being that our community can and will get the access they deserve. Her advocacy and support will forever be appreciated.
