The Somali Parents Autism Network (SPAN) was founded in 2014 by a group of Somali American immigrant parents with children diagnosed with autism. The mission of Somali Parents Autism Network (SPAN) is to educate and inform Somali families of children with autism spectrum disorders (ASD) in Minnesota via outreach, education, and collaboration, for the purpose of connecting them with resources and services with the end goal of early intervention, and caregiver empowerment.

Our Services

What We Do

The Somali Parents Autism Network provides resources and support to parents of children with autism and professionals who work with families affected by autism in the Somali community. We will provide a safe and inclusive place for Somali parents and families of children with autism to share information and resources while providing advocacy for the rights of individuals with autism and other developmental disabilities.

System Navigation

We assist ASD families with finding and engaging service providers, school systems, medical professionals, and other appropriate resources for their child's needs. Our goal is to provide families with outreach, education, advocacy, and support services in a culturally-sensitive environment.

Resources Connection

At Somali Parents Autism Network, we assist ASD families with finding resources, services, and support to improve their children's quality of life. We strive to create a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment for Somali families of children with autism.

Advocacy

At Somali Parents Autism Network, we advocate for autism awareness, community education, and inclusive opportunities for our children with autism. We are responsible for creating a positive future for all children with autism, regardless of their ethnicity or background.

Education

At Somali Parents Autism Network, we believe parents and caregivers of children with autism should have access to the same information and resources as other families. We offer culturally-sensitive education opportunities for the members of our community, including parents, families, and professionals.

Outreach And Engagement

At Somali Parents Autism Network, we create a welcoming and safe community for individuals with autism and their families. Every individual has the right to access information, support, resources, and services to help them live meaningful lives and achieve their full potential.

At Somali Parents Autism Network (SPAN), we believe in partnering with others to achieve our goals. We provide resources guide information, educational workshops, and advocacy for Somali families of children with ASD, as well as those outside the Somali community.
